Holidays Part 3

Namaskaram ihr Lieben :) Namaskaram everybody :)

!Parts in Green are in English!

Now the last part of my report of my travel in the summer holidays here, I hope you like the way I write about it.

Varanasi

From Jodhpur we had to go by train 25 hours to reach Varanasi, another city at the bank of river Ganga. This holy city has a lot of different Hindu temples. Another things Varanasi is famous for are all the ghats, especially the burning ghat. Ghats are the areas which are at the river and at the burning ghat the Hindus burn the dead to but their ash into the river. We did a morning and an evening boat drive on the river. There we saw a ceremony of a really big Pooja they are doing every night. When Nele wanted to get into the boat she slipped on the stairs going into the water and went straight into it. It was looking really funny as our guide tried to help her out and also went straight into the water. Besides we visited some of the temples in Varanasi. There is on temple of Hanuman, the monkey god (that’s why monkeys are holy) where there are living monkeys. When we visited the temple all the monkeys suddenly started running in one direction and 2 seconds later a big tree just fell down on the roof under which we were standing.

Darjeeling

From Varanasi to Darjeeling we couldn’t get a direct train or bus so that we went to Patna first. We went by train but had to wait at the train station in Varanasi for 4 hours as our train was delayed. In Patna we had a really nice couchsurfer. The time in Patna we used to relax. From Patna we went to Siliguri and from there with a jeep to Darjeeling. It was so nice to have a decent climate again. The time there we used to enjoy the landscape and drink a lot of tea. Unfortunately we had bad luck when we arrived as it started to rain and we had to find a hotel. Besides a lot of hotels where already full.

Kolkata

The bus ride from Siliguri to Kolkata was also one of the worst journeys we had. We were lying at the end of the bus and permanently jumping because of the road. It was not possible to sleep as you were thrown up in the air every 5 minutes. In Kolkata we visited the Victoria Memorial and walked at the Hoogly river.

Pondicherry

The journey from Kolkata to Pondicherry was again very long, 34 hours. Unfortunately someone stole my phone in the train and I was really feeling sad in this moment, all my photos and memories are gone. But you can’t do anything so I arranged with the situation. Arriving in Pndicherry we got picked up by the woman we were couchsurfing with and she left us in her flat. After that we went to the beach and took a bath in the ocean. It was really difficult to swim, but it was worth the try. We learnt to play Carambole (if this is the real name). Pondicherry is a former French colony and you can see this especially in the architecture. The French quarter is the most beautiful part of Pondi and even though you can’t take a swim at the beach there, it is nice to walk. In the French quarter we ate in an amazing French bakery. At one day we went to a nearby city where there is a big lake with water ways as there are in Kerala too. It was really nice to be in peace on the water. Besides we visited the big temple there. We also went to Auroville, this is a life project which wants to be independent from all countries. It gives shelter to people from all over the world. There are living 230 Germans too.

Holidays Part 2

Namaskaram ihr Lieben :) Namaskaram Everybody :)

!Green Part is English!

Here you can find the second part of my report of my travel in the North of India.

Rishikesh

From Manali we went to Rishikesh. The journey was one of the most exhausting and terrible one we had, we went over night in a local bus. The bus was so uncomfortable that I got nearly no sleep and this is really unusual, as I can sleep everywhere now. Through Rishikesh goes the river Ganga which is the reason that Rishikesh is a holy city for Hindus. There is a famous bridge which is said to be built by one of the Hindu gods. On the other side of the bridge you can find a big temple with countless statues of the Hindu gods, but with some little shops too. On one day Nele and I walked approximately 7 km, because our hotel was in the middle of nowhere. First we visited a temple which was in a cave in a stone and sat at the river. After that we tried to walk in the other direction, but at some point we gave up because there was nothing to be seen. In the restaurants in the city of Rishikesh you can only get vegetarian food as it is the Believe of Hindus.

Bikaner

After a short visit in Delhi we went to Bikaner in the state of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is the desert state which you can find at the border to Pakistan. There is the thar desert. With the night train from Delhi we reached Bikaner really fast. The city has, like all the big cities in Rajasthan a Fort which we visited. Besides in a small village near Bikaner there is the Karnia Mata, the rat temple. It was on the one hand really interesting but on the other hand it was really dirty because of all the rats and pigeons (rats of the air is more than fitting here). In the corner you could find one or the other dead rat as well. Furthermore Bikaner is famour for all its former Havelis. Nele and I were lucky enough to have a local guy show us around and even explaining us the history of the Havelis and the city in German. We also visited a hotel which was the residence of the king in former times.

Jaisalmer

In Jaisalmer we did a camel safari in the that desert. This was soo amazing. Camels are such calm and quiet animals, so that I really got to like them immediately. First we went with a jeep to a ghost village and then we went to the place where we started riding the camels. To get on the camel it is really difficult as you get thrown to the front and then to the back and it is difficult to not fall down. In the night we slept on a sand dune under the stars where I could sleep really well. Unfortunately when I woke up everyone was covered with sand but it was worth it. Besides we visited Jaisalmers Fort which is the on eI like the most because there are people living inside and giving the fort another atmosphere. There is a lake too which was the only water source in former times. And there you can also find some famous Havelis.

Mount Abu

With our Couchsurfer we went to Mount Abu to escape the hot climate of Rajasthan, because it is one place where the climate is really modest. There is a lake where we went with a boat. Besides you can find a famous jain temple which is really breath taking.

Jodhpur

In Jodhpur we also visited the fort but after seeing so many forts it was not so interesting anymore as they all look alike and have the same things in there museums. But we could not have look at the canons because someone died while taking a selfie there. Besides we visited the Jodhpur palace which was not really spectacular too.

Holidays North India Part 1

Namaskaram ihr Lieben :) Namaskaram everybody :)

!!The green part is English!!

After a long time again a report of me! During the holidays a lot happened, that’s because I will upload three reports, et voilá here is the first part:

The big North India travel is over now and also the travelling was amazing and a great experience I am glad to be back in my silent and well known village.

But lets go to the beginning, the vacation started in Bangalore where we took a 38 hour train to Delhi. The train journey was really easy and the time past by very fast.

Delhi

In Delhi the vacation really started. We explored the city with the metro which is really cool. The metro has AC and is a really fast and convenient way to get around the town. We visited the Red Fort, Akshardam, Qutub Minar and the Lotus Temple. We have been in Delhi two times. There we tried Bhel Poori, Bav Bhaji and veg kebab. Delhi is really more nice then Bangalore and I really like that between the new and big houses there are also old buildings and temples.
Agra

During our time in Delhi we went for a one day trip to Agra. Early in the morning we started and returned in the evening. In Agra we visited the Taj Mahal (Taj Mehel spoken). Also the price for foreigners is really exaggerated with 1000R compared to an Indian with 50R it was worth the money to the building which is one of the seven world wonders. It is really impressive and the art of the building is amazing.

Amritsar

From Delhi we went to Amritsar by train. The Golden Temple we only saw in the night, but in the dark it was really beautiful too and it had something majestic. Besides we saw the border ceremony at the border to Pakistan. At the ceremony you could mainly see the patriotism of both countries and I felt like I am in the middle of a theatre play. On both sides the people where singing and shouting to be louder than the people on the other side and on the indian side the people even started to dance.

Mc Leod Ganj

Then we went with the local bus to Mc Leod Ganj. Actually first to Dharamsala and then to Mc Leod Ganj. We stayed in a hotel on the mountain at Dharamkot, where we had a really nice view. Unfortunately the weather was rainy and because of that foggy too. I saw the residence of the Dalai Lama, but not the Dalai Lama. Besides I learned a lot about the story of Tibetan refugees in India. Because of that many Tibetans are living there. On one day we went to a waterfall nearby, but it was not worth the walk. I tried Momos, fried or steamed stuffed dough, yummy!

Manali

Manali, what I always called Manila…was our second stop in the Himalaya and our couchsurfer was super nice driving us around in an open pick-up. Two times we went to Kullu, there we did wild water rafting and paragliding. The paragliding was an amazing experience and a lot of fun to fly over the stunning landscape. Just the landing was a bit painful as I was bumping on my ass. Besides we visited a pretty cool waterfall and also it was really cold because of the water and the wind it was worth the climbing.
